About Shrot
"Shrot", meaning "source" — the origin of a river, where purity, freshness, and life begin. The name embodies our commitment to providing products that are as pure and refreshing as the life-giving waters that flow from the earth’s most vital springs. Just as a river’s source sustains and nurtures, Shrot aims to be a wellspring of vitality, delivering the essence of life in every offering.
Shrot is a small, home-run business based in Ranikhet, Uttarakhand (India), striving to introduce its visitors to the breathtakingly rich heritage of the Himalayas. We create skincare products for those who care about themselves and the environment. The ingredients we use are incomparable to any other brand, thanks to the land we are based in. Our humble, traditional, and slow crafting techniques transform these rich ingredients into heavenly elixirs for your skin.
Shrot is a conscious brand that cares—for you and for nature, without which we would not be able to bring these wonderful products to you. Our sustainability initiatives help us give back to nature in return for what we take from it, even though we surely can never give back enough. We cordially invite you to join us on this journey and, as a side effect, be gifted with glowing, healthy skin.
Humble beginnings
Formerly known as "The Himalayan Soap Shop," Shrot began as a brand design exercise by its founder, Priyank, in 2019 during COVID. He took up soap-making as a hobby, initially making cold-process soap in ice cube trays. Gradually, he began selling the soap through local boutique stores and realized the potential of the project as sales steadily increased. Priyank, coming from a design background, focused primarily on the brand identity at the time, spending almost a year refining it. During this period, he also became increasingly aware of the widespread issue of toxic, chemical-laden modern cosmetics available to the masses. As a result, he started creating soaps made only from the finest oils, such as extra virgin olive oil.
Over time, the decision was made to explore local oils and herbs that Uttarakhand has to offer. Priyank and his brother traveled to the remote villages of Pithoragarh in search of Chyura Butter (the Himalayan equivalent of Shea Butter), and continued their journey to establish contact with communities that could provide authentic Chyura, Hempseed oil, Apricot Oil, and essential oils derived from Himalayan flora, among other ingredients. With the best possible raw materials in hand, Shrot decided to expand its product line, covering the entire skincare routine. This expansion was made possible through generous collaborations with small but highly knowledgeable artisans who helped Shrot design its recipes and rebrand itself. Since then, Shrot has been dedicated to bringing the best skincare products to its customers.
